IP Banning abusive users

I am having a problem with a user who has gone by the name of Oslowobumm, Oslowobuon, Oslowobor, Oslowoboon, and Oslowobon. He keeps queuing my entire library. I have banned him five times, and everyday when I come back to my computer, he's attempting to download my entire library using a different username.

The unshare feature simply isn't effective. Anyone can make a new username to circumvent an inconvenient ban. This guy is really bothering me, and I can't get rid of him. Is it possible to IP ban someone attempting to engage the ports on my computer?

Perhaps you should consider allowing users to IP ban other users, nir. Or at least allow us to /whois people that download from us.

Is there any solution you can offer me?

I understand what you're saying. Perhaps unsharing is gentle enough that maintaining it per IP won't offend too many hapless victims. Is this still going on? If you tell me which OS you're on I can give you a version of SoulseekQt that will let you test this feature.

I ended up having to unshare my library because he wouldn't stop. I'm using Windows 7, and I would be interested in doing some testing. I'm going to reshare my library, and (I ant believe I'm saying this) hopefully he reappears.

Try this build, it automatically unshares your files from any user with the same IP as any already unshared user:

Let me know how it works for you!

edit: One outright symptom of the system working is that new usernames that are automatically being unshared will start appearing in your unshared users list, in the Users->Unshared tab.

Nir you are a genius!

Is it working for you?

The fish took the bait. Within hours of resharing, he had queued my entire library again. As soon as I noticed, I came here and downloaded the updated client build. I banned him, and so far he hasn't reappeared. It would appear that this is working. If he manages to circumvent the ban, I'll be sure to update this thread.

I appreciate your help, nir. This is a very useful tool when it comes to battling trolls.

I'm glad to hear it (apparently) works! I'll make an official release within the next couple of days.

Thanks, Nir

There is nothing that comes CLOSE to SoulseekQT - it's freaking awesome. Such a powerful tool and a diverse, engaging community!

Thanks Nir!

Thank you scarletfire :)

... And a very POLITE community, too, I must say.
Haven't come across any morons here yet (unlike on the ancient forum(s)). Or it's because I just didn't look close enough ;-P
(just kidding)

Bad news. He's managed to requeue my library. He's been on the account for hours, so I would assume that it's his home computer.

Perhaps he changed IPs, new location (home / office?)

Ugh, sorry to hear you are having so many problems with that one loser troll.
Question: does selecting a low number for the option "Maximum number of queued uploads per user" help you at all?

For example, I have mine set to 20, so no matter what, any user who tries to queue my whole library of 150k files will only get 20 at a time. It's not a fix-all, but maybe it can help unclog your queue issue?
(assuming you are using QT of course)
