Privileges

Do they actually work at the moment, and if so, what is their benefit (other than supporting Nir for all the hard work, obviously)?

Thanks!

Yes, they work. Please consider supporting Soulseek if you use it and find it awesome.

You can also "give" privileges to your friends if you wish.

In short, better searching, download priority, and showing support.

Having download privileges means your downloads will be queued before those of other users, except for the ones who also have download privileges or are on the uploader's user list.

Direct Search Delivery, any of your manual searches while your privileges are still active will be directly delivered by the Soulseek server to all online Soulseek users, bypassing the distributed search network entirely and providing absolute full coverage of the entire Soulseek system and much faster delivery of results. If you've used room or user list searches on a regular basis you're probably familiar with the efficiency of direct delivery. This is that on a system-wide scale. We hope that you'll enjoy this new service!

Another added benefit is that your wish list searches are sent every 2 minutes (although I wish it was even faster) instead of every 12 minutes for non-privileged users. If you have hundreds of search terms on your wish list, this makes a big difference.

I didn't know about that! Has that always been the case?

I've been donating a dozen times, thanks for that. Good to know, will donate again. :)

Also, it would be good if supporters had some sort of an immunity from banning

There's quite a few assholes on the network, especially people with good shares seem to be quite paranoid and OCD about their shares.

Obviously that would open it up to abuse and people queuing 1000s of files leaving no option for the other party to defend themselves (I agree with that), but then again - there are cases when somebody pays for Privileges, then gets banned for no apparent reason whatsoever, and cannot use the Privileges fully. It then forces people to open up a new account, transfer privileges there, etc.

Maybe an option to ban people, but after sending out a warning message first? Or banning them for 12/24h only initially, so that they have some sort of an upper-hand in terms of dispute resolution etc?

Just dropping ideas freely out here :)
