Browse Files Options

A user recently banned me because the track times weren't displaying in my browse files listings. I compared my file listings to his and sure enough, he was right. The times display when i browse his files, but not when i display mine. I convinced him to unban me, but i would like to know if anyone knows the reason for the different displays and how i might change mine. Thanks.

SoulseekQt currently uses a method of analyzing MP3s that should be more accurate for determining bitrate, but doesn't yet generate audio length information. I'm sorry you were banned though, that sounds like an incredibly petty reason to ban someone.

Thanks. I agree. I was able to change his mind though. Why is it that when I browsed his files, I could see audio length? And it sounds like he does find others who share audio length as well. Is it because they are using a different version of soulseek?

They're likely using the original Soulseek client, Soulseek NS, which uses a 3rd party library to extract MP3 attributes. It gets a lot more information out of the MP3 than my own routine, but generates false bitrate readings with a lot of newer MP3s.
